The Harmonious Concerto of Art and Architecture
Design I: Residential Project
Beauty and lifestyle are defined through art and architecture, which form the identity of a place and present the best blend of public and private functions for a common space. These are the goals that architectural projects have always sought to define, which gives rise to Italian architect, Iris Fabbri’s ArtStreets concept: A pioneering model of territorial planning, established to reconcile the desires of the private sector with the needs of the community to create secure, enjoyable, hospitable places, neighborhoods and sections of the city made coherent by the central concept for the love of art and art appreciation.
Art is the main theme of this concept as it conveys culture, presents creativity, a natural storytelling which brings out our emotions. The project focuses on art and its relationship with architecture. Art bridges the public and private sphere, blending the home and the street, decorating the commercial centers and the open space and affecting how the spaces are conceived and designed, surrounding ourselves with beautiful and ingenious things that are not only a standalone masterpiece, but also contribute to the overall transformation of the area. Art expresses our individuality, it personalizes our space and it’s a virtuous dialogue with others without words; as they say visual are worth a thousand words. ArtStreets concept is based on these founding principles. From open public areas on the streets to more private spaces such as the floor to ceiling window showcasing the artwork of the homeowners or those of the commercial centers for pedestrians to view.
Art makes the common areas alive and vibrant for the community, inspiring further creativity. ArtStreets is designed as a coherent whole as opposed to simply the sum of separate parts. The artworks embellish the streets, blending in with the design of the green spaces, and the materials are carefully selected, being mindful of comfort and technology, while still aesthetically pleasing. We cherish the beauty of the classical era when the street is once again considered more than just functional, but an expression of the residents’ harmony and respect for the neighborhood, for one another, and of life.
Single-family residences are artfully situated on each side of the street and designed to complement the whole theme of art. The size and shape of the homes are in harmony with each other, but at the same time capable of being customized to the owner’s taste and style. In the front of the house, a big transparent window showcases the owner’s proud collectible works of art, be it impressionist, contemporary art, sculpture, modern art projections, or simply a greenhouse with exotic plants. This unique feature makes the house interesting and ever changing depending on the owner’s feelings or the season and holidays.
This theme of art continues to the inside of the house, the intricacies and delicate details are a representation of the owner’s personality and attitude towards life. The big glass windows, doors, and modern design complement the outdoor landscaping, swimming pools and lounge areas. Living is an art in and of itself and is shown perfectly through the ArtStreets project.
